Stuart is a chartered building surveyor who has worked in the building industry for the past 30 years. He joined Podium (formerly known as pod) as a Partner in 2011 to assist in the formulation of a new surveying branch of the company. Since joining the company he has used his experience on a series of large and complex projects ensuring that they are finished to a high standard, meet the clients’ needs, are within budget and are completed to programme.
Stuart has developed a broad range of experience in a variety of aspects of Building Surveying, Project management, Contract Law and professional services. He has a history of technical excellence, extensive leadership and team working, and highly effective communication skills. He is also a qualified fire risk assessor and ECO Surveyor accredited by the RICS and has carried out a range of surveys in these areas.
Over the last few years, he has become heavily involved in refurbishment schemes that include a mixture of decent homes and environmental improvements to existing buildings. Stuart has also acted as employer’s agent in large new build and estate regeneration schemes. He has recently managed projects ranging from a £13m environmental estate improvement scheme to school surveys and professional advice and is currently working on a replacement shop front project in central London.
Stuart began his career in construction by serving as a bricklayer’s apprentice with Lewisham Council at the age of 16. He moved into management while studying for a degree in surveying in the evenings. His early experience working directly for clients has given him a strong empathy with them – he has always been able to forge good relationships with his clients, who have followed him wherever he has worked.
A good sense of humour, combined with a dislike of being let down and made to look bad have all helped along the way. Stuart lives in Kent with his wife and two sons. In his spare time he is keen on rugby, swimming and gardening.
