Podium, (previously pod), acted as the designer on this project for Mears and Brighton and Hove City Council. We investigated a number of defects which led to the production of a suitable design to repair and insulate the buildings to bring them to meet current thermal standards.
Service provided
Designer – responsible for an intrusive survey of the buildings to ascertain the full level of defects caused by the historic application of tyfoam, this product is a deleterious material. The production of a full design which includes structural works and the thermal improvement of the buildings.
Principle Designer – Completion of the health and safety role ensuring that the correct procedures are followed to satisfy CDM 2015 and ensure that the client’s duties are discharged.
Key achievements
Complicated structural solution to allow the removal of the tyfoam product. This included the removal of the outside skin of brickwork from each property with the dwellings in occupation.
Production of a quality finish whilst maintaining value for money through good cost management.
Improving the U value for the properties to meet current new build standards.
Combating fuel poverty for the residents.
