17th September 2018Partner’s son completes Prudential Ride London 2018
800,000 people die every year from suicide, equating to one person committing suicide every 40 seconds. This highlights horrifying mortality statistics, which don’t seem to be reducing at a rate comparable to other leading death causes such as Heart Disease.
A significant part of the cause? A lack of mental health services and support for those in need, further impeded by the stigma around mental health issues. It’s a stigma present through lack of education as well as the difficulty to comprehend certain symptoms of mental illness for those lucky to not have suffered.
Having suspended University studies through depression, one of the Partner’s sons enrolled on the 100 mile Prudential London to Surrey bike ride which took place on 29th July 2018. All proceeds for sponsorships, which included a donation made by Podium Surveying LLP, are to be made to the Mental Health Foundation.
This ride, which was successfully completed, along with the ongoing commitment to the training required, formed part of the ongoing rehabilitation process for the Partner’s son. All such donations could help reduce this epidemic by allowing increased access to treatment.
